JOB SUMMARY

The U.S. Head of Credit Risk Management is responsible for identifying, assessing, and managing the credit risks associated with the bank's lending and investment activities. This role involves developing and implementing risk management policies, frameworks, and strategies to ensure that the bank’s credit portfolio is in alignment with both regulatory requirements and the bank's risk appetite. The U.S. Head of Credit Risk Management will collaborate closely with senior management, risk teams, and other departments to assess potential credit exposures, monitor risk indicators, and recommend appropriate actions to mitigate credit risk. Additionally, this role includes overseeing credit risk assessments, conducting stress tests, and ensuring compliance with both local and international regulatory standards.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive credit policies and procedures aligned with regulatory requirements and the bank’s risk appetite.
  • Credit risk assessment and monitoring:

Oversee the assessment and monitoring of credit risk across the bank’s portfolio.

Identify and implement strategies to mitigate potential credit risks and ensure compliance with regulations.

Lead the development of credit risk analytics and reporting to provide actionable insights to management.

Monitor and evaluate the performance of the loan portfolio, identifying trends and recommending adjustments.

Maintain oversight of (un)expected losses, ensuring the prevention of risk concentration in specific sectors through appropriate portfolio diversification.

  • Management of credit rating models in use at the Branch
  • Prepare regular reports and present on credit risk exposure and portfolio performance to relevant Risk Management committees.
  • Establish and implement a reporting process to provide timely communication with Head Office credit risk management.
  • Engage in continuous communication with regulators and auditors, addressing credit risk management concerns during examinations and audits.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field. A CFA/CPA designation or relevant credit risk certifications preferred.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive credit experience in commercial lending and CRE credit risk management, including underwriting, portfolio management, and credit risk assessment.
  • Deep knowledge of credit analysis, financial modeling, and risk assessment in commercial lending and CRE.
  • Familiarity with banking regulations, including FRB, NYDFS or other applicable frameworks.
  • Proficiency with credit management systems and financial reporting tools.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and with regulators.
  • Demonstrated success working in smaller teams
