About the Financial Crime Risk & Controls Team:
The Financial Crime Risk & Controls Team plays a pivotal role in overseeing and enhancing the firm’s AML, sanctions, and KYC-related technology controls. The team is responsible for managing complex, cross-functional initiatives, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and continuously improving the firm’s risk management framework.
This team oversees key compliance programs, including transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, PEP and negative news screening, and enterprise-wide customer risk assessment models. It is dedicated to ensuring that financial crime controls are effective, data-driven, and strategically aligned with the firm’s risk appetite.
The Role:
The firm is seeking a Program Manager to lead and enhance its Financial Crimes Risk and Controls Assessment (RCA) process, with a particular focus on AML red flags and transaction monitoring controls. This individual will play a critical role in executing and evolving the firm’s risk assessment methodologies, risk quantification frameworks, and control effectiveness evaluations.
The ideal candidate will have a strategic mindset, strong analytical skills, and experience working in risk management or financial crime compliance at a large, complex financial institution. They will also be expected to challenge existing processes, drive innovation, and streamline risk and control frameworks to ensure efficiency, consistency, and effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities:
Lead and Overhaul Risk & Controls Assessments
- Manage and enhance the firmwide Monitoring & Screening Risk and Control Assessment (RCA) process.
- Oversee the annual AML Red Flags assessment, products & services risk evaluations, and control effectiveness testing.
- Design and implement frameworks for inherent and residual risk assessments, standardizing methodologies to ensure consistency.
- Develop and implement protocols for identifying and remediating control deficiencies.
- Work closely with technology, compliance, and business units to optimize risk and controls assessment processes.
- Ensure alignment with global financial crime regulations (e.g., FATF, FinCEN, OFAC, FCA).
- Serve as a key liaison between compliance, risk, business units, and technology teams to ensure robust financial crime controls.
- Support the development and execution of remediation plans based on RCA findings.
- Lead governance forums and stakeholder discussions on risk assessment findings and control enhancements.
- Prepare and present materials for regulatory inquiries, internal audits, and risk assessments.
- Ensure compliance with internal governance frameworks and model risk management policies.
- Deliver clear, data-driven reporting on risk trends and control effectiveness to senior leadership.
- Drive enhancements in risk scoring methodologies, screening protocols, and transaction monitoring models.
- Identify opportunities to leverage technology and automation to improve risk assessment and control processes.
- Lead strategic projects focused on financial crime risk management innovation and best practices.
Who You Are:
- Experienced Risk & Compliance Professional: 8+ years in financial crime compliance, risk assessments, or control frameworks within a large financial institution.
- AML & Sanctions Expertise: Strong understanding of AML risks, sanctions evasion tactics, transaction monitoring controls, and screening methodologies.
- Strong Analytical & Strategic Thinking Skills: Ability to analyze risk exposure, identify process gaps, and develop risk mitigation strategies.
- Proven Leadership & Stakeholder Management: Experience engaging with senior stakeholders, driving decision-making, and influencing across departments.
- Technically Proficient: Comfortable with data analysis, technology-driven compliance tools, and governance frameworks. Exposure to JIRA, SQL, Tableau, or Agile methodologies is a plus.
- Excellent Communicator & Problem-Solver: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex risk concepts into actionable insights.
