About the Financial Crime Risk & Controls Team:
The Financial Crime Risk & Controls Team plays a pivotal role in managing the firm’s AML, sanctions, and customer due diligence programs. This team is responsible for designing, implementing, and enhancing risk-based controls that support the firm’s financial crime compliance framework.

The team oversees transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, negative news & PEP screening, enterprise-wide customer risk assessments, and related governance structures to ensure compliance with evolving regulatory requirements.

The Role:
The firm is seeking a Vice President and Senior Program Manager, Financial Crimes Governance to lead its global governance and oversight efforts related to financial crime risk monitoring and screening controls. This individual will be responsible for driving cross-functional initiatives, optimizing risk management frameworks, and ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations.

The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience in program management, risk governance, or AML transaction monitoring at a large financial institution. They should have a strategic mindset, strong leadership skills, and the ability to engage with senior stakeholders across compliance, risk, and technology teams.

This role is onsite in New York, NY.

Key Responsibilities:
Governance & Oversight of Financial Crime Risk Controls

  • Lead the firm’s governance framework for transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, and enterprise risk ranking models.

  • Oversee working groups and steering committees, ensuring key decision-making processes are data-driven and strategic.

  • Drive standardization and process improvement initiatives to enhance risk detection and compliance effectiveness.

Regulatory & Risk Management Strategy

  • Manage regulatory and internal audit engagements related to financial crime compliance risk assessments.

  • Oversee issue management and remediation planning, escalating concerns to senior leadership as needed.

  • Ensure alignment with global regulatory frameworks (FATF, FinCEN, OFAC, FCA, etc.).

Data-Driven Decision Making & Optimization

  • Utilize data analytics and risk intelligence tools to assess control effectiveness and identify emerging financial crime risks.

  • Collaborate with technology teams to drive enhancements in AML transaction monitoring models and screening frameworks.

  • Support transformation initiatives that leverage AI and automation to improve risk detection and efficiency.

Stakeholder Engagement & Leadership

  • Engage with senior stakeholders across compliance, risk, technology, and business units to drive alignment on risk management strategies.

  • Deliver executive-level reporting and insights on key financial crime compliance metrics.

  • Act as a trusted advisor on financial crime risk, influencing regulatory strategy and best practices within the organization.


Who You Are:

  • Experienced Compliance & Risk Leader: 10+ years in program management, risk governance, or AML transaction monitoring within a complex financial institution.

  • Expert in Financial Crime Compliance: Strong knowledge of AML risks, transaction monitoring methodologies, sanctions screening, and risk assessment techniques.

  • Strategic & Analytical Thinker: Ability to analyze large datasets, detect trends, and drive data-informed decision-making.

  • Influential Communicator & Stakeholder Manager: Strong executive presentation skills, with the ability to engage senior leaders and regulatory bodies.

  • Technologically Proficient: Familiarity with risk analytics tools, AML model validation, and productivity software like JIRA, Tableau, or Agile methodologies.

  • Adaptable & Problem-Solver: Ability to navigate complex regulatory landscapes and evolving financial crime risks while driving innovation in compliance frameworks.

  • Certified Professional (Preferred): CAMS or equivalent AML certification is preferred, or willingness to obtain within 15 months.
