A banking client of mine is seeking a Chief Risk Officer to lead the Risk & Compliance team. The CRO reports directly to the CEO  while supervising a team that is responsible for identifying, assessing, mitigating and monitoring all functional areas of risk, BSA, CRA, regulatory compliance, legal, security vendor management, fraud and oversees & coordinates all regulatory exams.



  • Leading the Bank’s risk management program in a manner that fulfills the mission and strategic goals of the Bank while complying with state and federal laws related to risk management
  • Conducting regular risk assessments, identifying and reporting to the Board and Senior Management areas of noncompliance with risk management, bank policy, industry standards, regulations or laws
  • Member of various Bank committees, including leading the Enterprise Risk Committee meetings and updating the risk dashboard quarterly against Board-approved risk tolerances
  • Directing the Bank’s compliance monitoring function using a risk-based approach as established by the annual compliance risk assessment
  • As the Board-appointed Compliance Officer for the Bank, lead the Bank’s Management Compliance Committee, including chairing meetings, reviewing and evaluating new regulations, regulatory findings, audit responses, and any contractual documents  
  • Responsible for the Bank’s BSA/OFAC function, including a CIP that is consistent with the Bank’s risk appetite and all applicable regulatory guidance
  • Overseeing Legal functions and serve as liaison to outside counsel
  • Coordinating with the Chief Technology Officer and Deputy Information Security Officer to assist with the oversight of business continuity function 
  • Overseeing the fraud function


Education & Experience:  

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or a related field
  • 8+ years of experience in enterprise risk management, compliance, and/or auditing
  • 6+ years of management experience required 
  • 5+ years of experience in establishing and implementing an enterprise-wide risk framework in a Bank required
  • JD and/or experience managing legal function preferred  
  • CRMC, CRMA and/or CRP preferred 



  • ·A high level of professional competence and excellent interpersonal communication skills to determine solutions around appropriate risk measures, risk processes, risk monitoring and management
  • Familiarity with fraud control and investigative techniques and practices 
  • Knowledge of statistics, data collection, analysis, and data presentation
  • Familiarity with all facets of banking activities including operational, financial, lending and data processing practices and standards
