The Life Science market in APAC is developing, resulting in many opportunities for employers and employees in this region. The market is growing, and we are seeing steady growth within the medical device and diagnostic sectors, specifically in the commercial, quality, and medical affairs space. This has been largely impacted by the global trend pushing medicine towards the prevention of a disease, hence the growth in the diagnostics space.

In this document we highlight:

  • Market insights for Medical Devices, Pharmaceuticals and BioTech/Startups.
  • Market Advice
  • Hiring Tips for Candidates
  • Salary Guides for Medical Affairs, Commercial, Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance.

Market Insights:

Medical Device

Within the medical device sector teams and divisions have traditionally been small but as these become more established globally, the expansion is reflected in APAC too. Within local regions, countries like China, Japan and Korea are becoming key revenue-generating market leaders.

Pharmaceutical

For the Pharmaceutical sector, we have seen a slight decline in hiring. This could be due to many clinical trials being at an early phase stage, or this could be as due to the pandemic, where trials that are not related to respiratory/COVID were put on hold. Emphasis has been to decentralize teams and focus on creating local teams within local markets.

BioTech/Start-Ups

We are seeing many innovative biotech start-ups being set up in China, Japan and Korea, offering an exciting tech-first approach to drug development. This gives local talent a choice of the type of employer they would like, attracting candidates with 15-20 years of pharmaceutical experience who would look at senior positions within start-up companies to get them to IPO.
